This group became who we are after merging 2 local collaboratives, The Moffett Field Military, Veterans and Families and the Santa Clara Military, Veterans and Families into this one collaborative. The Leadership Team shown above worked together to make that happen.
Born from the California Statewide Collaborative for our Military and Families founded by Mary Ellen Salzano. She continues her work on her Facebook page that is located at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/271462901983/ .
We thank Mary Ellen for her vision and her advocacy that continues today and into the future.
Today we meet to "put our money where our mouth is" by advocating for responsible change inside of public, private and non-profit programs that already exist. Those programs that provide services for the entire community often overlook segments of our society not out of lack of concern, but out of lack of representation of those segments. We seek to advocate for the Military, Veterans and their Families in Santa Clara County.
At the 2015 Veterans Day Parade Press Conference wherein the Mayor of San Jose, Mr. Sam Licardo and the President of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, Mr. Dave Cortese each vowed to end Veteran Homelessness in Santa Clara County by late 2017. There are over 700 known homeless Veterans in our county. That means there are more than we all know of. 1 is too many, over 700 is a crisis.
We publically thank Mr. Licardo, Mr. Cortese and city and county leaders that have come together with Destination Home to make that goal a reality.

Politics is a fact of life in our society so working within the political structure we can accomplish our goals if heed these wise words:
"Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer."
John F. Kennedy
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
